North East England has major cities - Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham and Middlesbrough and many thriving towns including Darlington, Stockton, Redcar and Hartlepool.  Away from the main conurbations there are market towns such as Alnwick, Morpeth, Berwick, Hexham and Barnard Castle.

North East England has two World Heritage sites – Hadrian’s Wall and Durham Cathedral and Castle.
