Selling North East England overseas

The New Year will see North East England’s promoted as a tourism destination across Europe with the launch of the most extensive campaign yet to attract overseas visitors to the region.

One North East will lead a delegation of tourism partners heading to trade and travel shows around Europe over the next couple of months in an effort to encourage holiday makers to visit North East England.

The team will be promoting the region’s Coast and Countryside, History and Heritage, City Culture and the region’s friendly welcome in the Netherlands, Norway, Ireland, Italy and Germany this spring.

One North East’s head of marketing, Tania Robinson said: “These trips will help promote North East England as an ideal holiday destination. The message we’re taking out there is that the region’s easily accessible, it’s compact, easy to get around and many fantastic attractions.

”We have so much to offer, we are encouraging tourists to spend more time herr and see as much of the region as they can.”

Visitors to the region contribute somewhere in the region of £1.8b to the local economy according to the latest available figures.

Among those attending the exhibitions will be Newcastle Gateshead Initiative, Tynedale Council (Hadrian’s Wall Country), Durham County Council, Tees Valley Tourism, South Tyneside Council, Sunderland City Council, Northumberland National Park, MetroCentre Gateshead and Eldon Square.

Each exhibition will also contain a taste of North East England including Newcastle Brown Ale Fudge, Cinder Toffee and locally produced soaps and lip balms thanks to Doddington Dairy, Beamish North of England Open Air Museum and Honey Chain Farm.

Visitors to the North East England exhibition stand will also be able to pick up a 20-page Essential Guide to North East England, including a top ten of things to see and do in the region that has been translated into German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian.

Timed to coincide with the region’s attendance at the overseas travel exhibitions, essential information including travel, maps, top attractions and a guide to the region’s accommodation is now available in both Dutch and Norwegian on www.visitnortheasengland.co.uk. German, Italian and Swedish will follow in the next few weeks.
